Terms and Conditions for Usage of Mahatma Gandhi Central Library Services
Welcome to the Mahatma Gandhi Central Library at IIT Roorkee. The library is committed to providing a wide array of resources and services to facilitate research, learning, and academic excellence. By accessing and using the services offered by the Mahatma Gandhi Central Library, you agree to adhere to the following terms and conditions.

1. Eligibility for Library Services
   • The Mahatma Gandhi Central Library is primarily designed for the use of the students, faculty, and staff of IIT Roorkee. Access to physical and digital resources may also be available to external researchers and library affiliates, subject to approval and availability of materials.
2. Access to Resources
   • Library resources include books, journals, e-resources, digital archives, and multimedia content.
   • Registered users can access these resources both physically within the library premises and virtually through the library’s digital platforms.
   • Some resources may have restricted access based on licensing agreements or institutional policies.
3. User Responsibilities
   • Users are expected to handle library materials with care and must return them by the due dates to avoid fines and penalties.
   • Library materials should be used exclusively for academic purposes. Commercial use of materials is strictly prohibited.
   • Any damage to library property, whether physical or digital, must be reported immediately. Users may be held responsible for the repair or replacement costs.
4. Library Services and Facilities
   • The Mahatma Gandhi Central Library provides access to various services such as book lending, reading spaces, and digital reference tools.
   • Users must adhere to the rules and regulations of the library, including maintaining silence in study areas and refraining from bringing food or beverages into the library.
   • The library reserves the right to modify the availability and functionality of its services, particularly during holidays, maintenance, or upgrades.
5. Privacy and Data Protection
   • The library is committed to safeguarding the privacy of its users. Any personal information collected during the registration or usage process is protected and used only for library-related purposes.
   • Library staff may, under certain circumstances, access usage data to support the management and improvement of library services.
6. Late Fees and Penalties
   • Users are required to return borrowed items on time. Failure to do so will result in overdue fines, which will be calculated according to the library’s established policies.
   • Repeated instances of late returns or violations of library regulations may result in restricted access to library resources and services.
7. Conduct and Behavior
   • All users are expected to maintain respectful behavior within the library premises. Any form of disruptive conduct, including loud talking, misuse of library equipment, or harassment, will not be tolerated.
   • Inappropriate use of library facilities, including the use of computers and internet access for non-academic purposes, is prohibited.
8. Amendment of Terms
   • The Mahatma Gandhi Central Library reserves the right to modify or update these terms and conditions at any time. Users will be notified of significant changes, and continued use of library services will indicate acceptance of the updated terms.
