Services

Membership

IITR faculty, students, and staff are bona-fide members of the library. They have to get their membership activated by producing documentary proof of their Employee No. / Enrolment No. at the library circulation counter as per schedule (for students only).

The MGCL also offers membership to IIT Roorkee Alumni, Industrial and Corporate Houses, Engineering Educational Institutions, IITR retired faculty, officers, staff, and other professionals on payment of fees as per the details below:

Note: Membership fee is to be paid by DD/Cheque in favour of "Registrar, IIT Roorkee" and submitted with the prescribed Library membership form, available for download on our website.

Outside Users

Faculty, students, and researchers from IITs, NITs, Central Universities, R&D organizations, and special members of MGCL are allowed to refer to the library free of charge against introduction letters from their respective organizations. Others have to pay Rs 200/day/person for ad hoc membership with the permission of the Librarian of MGCL against introduction letters from their respective organization/institution.

Note: All users are to abide by the rules and regulations of MGCL.

General Book Section
  • Research Scholars: 7 Books for 14 days
  • PG Students: 4 Books for 14 days
  • UG Students: 3 Books for 14 days
  • Faculty: 14 Books for one year or till 30th June
  • Group A Officer: 8 Books for one year or till 30th June
  • Staff: 5 General books for a year or till 30th June
  • Retired Faculty/Staff: 1 General book for 30 days or till 30th June
  • Special Member (Corporate): 2/3/10 General books for a year or till 30th June
Textbook-Bank Loan Section
  • UG Students: 3 Books for full semester
  • PG Students (Earth Sciences / M. Biotech / All M. Sc.): 3 Books for full semester

Issue/Return (Circulation)

General Section: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM (Monday to Friday)
TBLS : 04.00 PM - 07.00 PM (Monday to Friday)

Wi-Fi Connectivity @MGCL

All floors in the library are Wi-Fi enabled zones. User may use their laptops, mobile, or any other similar devices for accessing catalogue and academic information.

Reprographic/ Printing @MGC

  1. Reprography and computer printing facility is open for all the users from 10.30 A.M. to 05.30 P.M. (Lunch- 01.00 PM -02.00 pm) on all working days at a flat rate of Re. 2/- per page (B&W) and 5/- per page (Coloured).Only electronic payment is acceptable.
  2. Request for reprography of a document should be made on a prescribed form available with library staff.
  3. The Library strictly undertakes to reproduce material required for personal research and study purposes only. No personal documents certificates etc. can be allowed to be xeroxed.
  4. Photocopies of the unpublished dissertation/ thesis shall not be provided unless permission of the author is obtained.
  5. All responsibilities for questions pertaining to copyright that may arise due to violation of Copyright Act and any misuse made of copies shall strictly lie with person making the work order request.

Payment Through POS

  • Users can pay their dues through QR code/UPI.
  • No payment will be accepted in cash, Borrower can pay their dues on or before the registration for next year/leaving the Institute.

Inter Library Loan

Under the Inter Library Loan Scheme the study material/s not available in our library is procured from neighbourhood libraries or sister institutions on Inter Library Loan for meeting the special needs of all the potential readers. Requisition for Inter Library Loan of material should be send with the recommendation of the Head of Departments or the guides of research scholars.The same also can be send through email to library@iitr.ac.in . The Inter Library Loan period is one month.

Article/s Procurement Service

Under the Article/s procurement Service the article/s not available in our library / Subscription is procured from neighbourhood libraries or sister institutions for meeting the special needs of our researchers /readers. Requisition for Article can be submitted online or by sending mail to journals[at]iitr[dot]ac[dot]in also.

Text Book Loan Scheme

The Text Book Loan Scheme section exclusively contains 60,000(approx.) editions of text books prescribed for study at the Undergraduate and all M.Sc/M.Tech (Earth Sci. & Bio tech.) level.A student may become member of this scheme on payment of prescribed onetime fee Rs 250/- (except SC/ST candidates). One may get three text books issued for semester duration. Text books may be exchanged on all working days. A fine of RS. 2.00 per volume per day shall be charged after the last day of return is over.

* Students may get 2 more books issued after TBLS Schedule.

Registration:
Only Privileged students can register for TBLS and become the member of the scheme on payment of prescribed onetime fee Rs 250/- (except SC/ST candidates). Every year before commencing the odd semester, the registration is done on the scheduled date. Student has to produce the admission slip and caste certificate (for SC/ST candidates) at the time of registration.

Cyber Zone/E-Resource Terminals

MG Central Library provides sufficient number of latest computers for browsing academic information available online through Internet. Separate computers have also been provided at every floor for searching library catalogue.

SMS/E-mail Alert Service

Through SMS/E-mail Alert service, The MGCL users receive the details of every transcation made in their account in the library, also the overdue reminders/ notices are being sent to the user in due course of time through this services.
