How do I become a member of the Library?

IITR faculty, students, and staff are bona-fide members of the Library. You must activate your membership by presenting documentary proof at the library circulation counter. The MGCL also offers membership to IIT Roorkee Alumni, Industrial and Corporate Houses, Engineering Educational Institutions, retired faculty, officers, and other professionals on payment of a fee.

How can an outsider use the MGCL?

Faculty, Students, and Researchers from other institutions like IITs, NITs, Central Universities, and R&D organizations can refer to the library free of charge with an introduction letter. Others must pay Rs 200/day for ad-hoc membership with permission from the Librarian.

What are the Loan privileges of the member of MGCL?

Different categories of users have varying loan privileges. For example, Research Scholars and PG Students can borrow up to 7 books for 14 days, while Faculty members can borrow 14 books for up to one year. Please refer to the detailed list for other categories.

How do I locate the desired book/s in the Library?

Go to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) at library.iitr.ac.in, search for the book, note the Call Number, and pick the book from the shelf. If you can't find it, inform the library staff at the circulation counter.

What is/are the fine/s for overdue book/s?

The fine is Rs 2 per day per book for general and TBLS books (minimum Rs 5). In case of justified late return, the fine can be reduced by up to 50% upon approval.

How do I pay my library overdue charges?

Check your overdue charges through the online catalogue at this link, then pay the amount at the circulation counter using a Debit card.

What are the library timings?

The library is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 10:00 pm (extended to midnight during exams). On weekends and holidays, it is open from 9:45 am to 6:30 pm (extended to midnight during exams).

What should I do if I lost the library books issued to me?

If you lose a book, report it immediately to the circulation staff, either return the same book or submit the cost of the book along with a Rs 250 penalty. In case of a multi-volume set, you may need to replace the entire set.

Can I take photographs inside the library?

You may take photographs inside the library with permission from the Librarian or In-charge.
